Yama Onigiri - Onigiri Shop & Vending Machine: Authentic Japanese Onigiri Experience in Banff

Visited Banff yesterday and went here for a quick lunch. One bite of their Onigiri tastes like youre in Japan. Similar to what I ate in Osaka. Very tasty loaded with toppings. Their Hokkaido Scallop onigiri was top notch, also their strawberry matcha was delicious. Oishiiiiiii, meccha sugoiii

5/5 must visit the next time you're in Banff! It's a cute little quaint place. My husband and I both had one onigiri each and both were tuna based and so delicious! It's quite a generous portion and tasted very fresh. I can't wait to come back!

This place has AMAZING onigiri, just as good as anything we had in Japan. We each got two, but probably would have been fine with just ordering one. The poke onigiri was definitely our favorite, but there were no misses. The whole ambiance is very authentically Japanese, and was absolutely lovely! Wish we could go back soon!

Quaint little shop. Onigiri is very fresh and generous with the filling. The scallop one is absolutely delicious especially when it is warm. The strawberry matcha is very yummy as well. Most items are tuna-based. I do not eat tuna so I wish there were other options like salmon. But that's just a personal preference. 5/5 must visit in Banff!

Got a spicy tuna onigiri, miso soup, and matcha tiramisu. Would have liked to try the mocchi or the purin I saw in previous pictures of the place but unfortunately they didn't have it when I went. The onigiri was tasty and very filling, packed with tuna. The miso soup was standard, I never thought about adding enoki mushrooms in it! Matcha tiramisu was superb, highly recommend if you are there. The onigiri vending machine is cute, reminds me of the vending machines in Japan especially when it greets you.

I was in Banff for a day and found this place on google maps while looking for a quick bite to eat. As soon as I saw Onigiri I had to check it out. I had 3 different kinds: spicy tuna, Hokkaido scallop and pork kimchi. Everything was absolutely delicious but the scallop was by far my favourite! I don't usually eat scallop but I had to try it out after reading all the good reviews. Highly recommend this place :)

We tried the Onigiri at this small restaurant and loved it. We had the classic tuna mayo and the Hokkaido scallops, both were excellent. The owner was very helpful with the ordering, explaining the choices providing suggestions.

My husband found out about this place from reading about their vending machine in Canmore so we decided try out the shop while we were in Banff. I had a Hokkaido scallops and a tuna mayonnaise while my husband picked the pork kimchi and also the tuna mayonnaise for take out. We saw our orders prepared while we waited. Each of our onigiris were meticulously prepared, firmed and wrapped by hand. We took our orders to the food court in a shopping centre next door where it was nice & warm inside. The aroma of warm rice, seaweed and the lightly sweetened soy hit us as soon as we opened the wrappers. The onigiris were huge but it was very soft and fluffy. The flavour of the sea was abundant in my Hokkaido scallops and the tuna mayonnaise had a very nice spicy kick to it. I was foolish to think I could keep one for snack later. They were both consumed quickly. I’m glad we waited for the shop to open at 11:30 for lunch even though we were tired from waking up at 03:15 the same day to travel to Lake Louise from Canmore to make sure we would have a spot at the parking lot by the lake. With our bellies full and happy, we went back to our hotel in Canmore for a very much needed afternoon nap.
